This week’s poll question is on “Do you think Cloud Computing will be more popular in the future?” We have received several votes from our guests. Based on the poll results, this is simplified version of the results in a pie chart form.

Following are the option and the percentage of total votes for each choice, below:

A) Yes. Because it brings a lot of benefits. 46% (6 Votes)

B) No. It doesn't help much. 15% (2 Votes)

C) Maybe not so soon. Even though it is useful, it still needs time for public to familiarize with it. 38%

From the pie chart above we can clearly see that the choice with the highest number of votes is the first option. Which means users agree that cloud computing has its advantage. This shows the users have understood about cloud computing, its applications and function. Thus, they find it very useful. Furthermore, these groups of user must be profound users of the Internet, by using this cloud computing technology it changes the entire way of using the Internet by making it easier to access data, share data, store data and many more. Users also are able to save cost as they only have to pay per use. Hence, there is no doubt user agree that cloud computing brings benefits.

The second option is “No. It doesn’t help much” which had a vote of 2. This must be because this group of user are not very familiar with this cloud computing technology or not happy with the evolution of a new technology. This is also because evolution of new technology may require user to learn the features and how to use the technology. Moreover, this group of users may just want to stick to their comfort zone which is still use the conversional method of accessing data, sharing data, storing data and many more.

The third option is the second highest vote. This group of user may want some time to use and explore the cloud computing applications before fully implement it. They might also want to consider solving other issues related to cloud computing such as security features and the bandwidth speed before utilizing it.

Analysis Post Week 10

Last week's poll was on " Which do you think is a bigger issue on Cloud Computing?" . Visitors have voted and the results are analysed. A total of 25 visitors have participated in the poll. Below is a pie chart of the results of the poll (Blogger is having maintenence and we cannot upload images. We are sorry if there are inconvenience caused. We will upload a better pie chart when blogger is back to normal. For the time being, click on the pie chart to see the pie chart clearly)  :

Here are the options and their respective results:
A) Privacy (44% with 11 votes)
B) Availability (40% with 10 votes)
C) Legal issues (0% with 0 votes)
D) Software/ Application Security (16% with 4 votes)

Privacy option has the most votes over the other options. The option with the second most votes is Availability. Next is followed by Software/ Application Security and lastly Legal issues. It seems that most users are mostly concerned about privacy issues when using Cloud Computing technology.

This shows that most users agreed that privacy issue is one of the most critical issue of Cloud Computing.This is because privacy issues are one of the most important issues to be considered before using any kind of technology. Users are worried that their personal or confidential information might be spread through the Internet. This is unsafe for users because it makes them to be easily targeted by cyber criminals.

Availability is also another popular Cloud Computing issues among users. This is because one of the major reasons for using Cloud Computing is its availability to access the data stored in the 'cloud' anywhere, anytime. If the 'cloud' server isn't always available and often have access problems, then users rather use the traditional way to store files.

Most users do not consider legal issues first because safety and security is the most important and critical issue. Thus, there are zero votes for Legal issues.

Some users use Cloud Computing mainly to gain access to cloud applications or softwares. Some organizations also implemented cloud applications that can be used by staffs and customers. Therefore, it is important that the cloud applications are safe, so that no confidential information is leaked out.

Here was the week 9 analysis that shows how confidence our visitor know cloud computing whether help the environment with the title “Can Cloud Computing help the environment?”. Below have shown the result by using pie chart:

From the pie chart:

13 out of 31 visitors have been votes “Yes. Cloud Computing saves resources.” as it took highest percentage that is 42%.

“No. Cloud Computing has nothing to do with the environment.” Was get lowest percentage and votes that is 10% and 3 votes.

5 out of 31 visitors have been votes “Maybe. I think it has something to do with the environment.” as it took out 17% of the chart.

And 9 out of 31 visitors have votes for “I don’t know.” as it took out second highest votes percentage that is 31% over 100%.

This week’s poll question is “Which Cloud Operating System are you most likely to try?” We have received around 10 votes. Whereby, 5 people are most likely to try Cloudo operating system, 4 people are most likely to try iCloud operating system and I person is most likely to try EyeOS . Below is the summary of the overall results in a pie chart diagram.

Each summary of the choices for the poll and the results are shown below:

A) Cloudo 50% (5 votes)

Cloudo is a cloud operating system which has been introduces as an open beta. This allows users to try the operating system for free. Users can run this cloud operating system on any computing platforms as long as you’re connected to the Internet. However, users have to ensure that the web browser used by the user is compatible to the operating system. This is because Cloudo might not be able to work on certain web browsers. Most of the user might want try out this operating system maybe because they use Mozilla Firefox web browser, as it is able to support the operating system. Furthermore, many reviews say that this cloud operating system has it on unique interface that doesn’t imitate other operating systems.

B) iCloud 40% (4 votes)

iCloud is a stable cloud desktop operating system. This operating system is not downloaded; it is run as a service. Hence, users will have to sign up for an account in order to use it. The sign up is free for users. Applications and files in the desktop of an iCloud operating system are run through the web browser. Since, it is run via the internet iCloud offers users with features such as sharing photos, music and videos. Some user might want to try out this operating system maybe because it is said to be one of the best cloud operating system with its own versatile features.

C) EyeOS 10% (1 vote)

EyeOS is an open source cloud desktop operating system. Users are able to download and install this software on any web server which supports WordPress or Drupal. EyeOS includes approximately 67 applications such as word processor, address book, PDF reader and system utilities. Just like other cloud operating system, EyeOS provides features like sharing files and online collaboration. However, many people may not want to try it because they will have to download and install the software in order to use their service.

The poll question for this week is "Does economy crisis promotes the use of Cloud Computing?". Above is a pie chart that shows the overall results of the poll. The total number of votes for this week's poll is 30 votes. Now, let's see whether most users agree or disagree with the statement.

Below is a summary of the choices for the poll and the results for each choice :

A) Agree 63% (19 votes)

This choice has received the highest number of votes which is 19 votes out of 30 votes. Most of the voters agreed that economy crisis can promote the use of Cloud Computing. This is because they are aware of the emerging technology that is soon becoming the next cutting-edge technology. Cloud Computing has became so common that always every Internet user has experienced cloud computing intentionally or unintentionally. For example, social networking websites which has been popular recently like Facebook, Myspace and others allows users to upload photos and videos to the "cloud" to share with other users. Moreover, economy crisis easily promotes the use of Cloud Computing because during economy crisis, such as recession, most companies want to save costs and reduce on spendings. Cloud Computing is one of the best solutions to their problems because they can keep their data all in the "cloud" or use cloud services like Google Docs for business applications. This benefits the company because they can save both hardware and software costs which are relative costly. Small organizations would also gladly use cloud computing to save both costs and space. Everything has been made simple and less costly with cloud computing.

B) Disagree 7% (2 votes)

There are a minority of voters which disagree to this statement. This may be because, even though cloud computing is constantly improving as time passes; however, it is very slow to being adopt by users. This is also proven in an article which reports that Spain is ready to accept Cloud Computing, but it is slow to adopt the technology. As mentioned in the article, it says that small and medium-sized business are shaken by the economy crisis, whereas the public are fighting against unemployment issues. C) Maybe 23% (7 votes)

23% of the total voters vote that maybe economy crisis helps promote Cloud Computing. This is because there is a possibility for either situation to happen. The voters might have thought that economy crisis most likely will help promote the use of Cloud Computing, but they are not very sure about the fact due to the concern of the setbacks that may cause the slow adoption of Cloud Computing. This hesitation caused the voters to be uncertain about the statement.

D) No Idea 7% (2 votes)

This group of voters might be unfamiliar with the Cloud Computing technology and thus have no clue about how economy crisis can relate to Cloud Computing. Perhaps, they understand Cloud Computing only on the surface but not in what are the advantages and disadvantages Cloud Computing can bring.

Different users have different opinions. Therefore, from the above analysis, most voters agreed that economy crisis promotes the use of Cloud Computing. Even though there is no definite answer to this question, the fact that economy crisis has influence over the growth of Cloud Computing does not change, regardless on how big the influence is. This week’s poll question is about “Which Cloud Computing service do you prefer?” We have received total votes of 7. Whereby, 4 votes in favour of Windows Live Sky Drive and 3 vote in favour of Google Doc. A simplified version of this poll result is as below in a pie chart diagram.

Each percentage of votes is shown below:

A) Windows Live Sky Drive (4Votes – 57%)

B) Google Doc (3 Votes – 43%)

C) Show Document (0 Votes – 0%)

D) Opera Unite (0 Votes – 0%)

Based on the pie chart above the number of vote for Windows Live Sky Drive was the highest. Perhaps, this is because Windows live Sky Drive is popular among users due to its features compared to the other 3 options given. With Windows Live Sky Drive you are able to store and share photos, videos and documents online. You are also able to choose with who you would like to share and also access the photos and documents from any web browser as long as you have an Internet connection. Furthermore, the Windows Live Sky Drive has free office web application whereby you are able to create and work with others on the Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents online.

On the other hand, the Google doc web application allows you to share, create, and access your work on Documents, Spreadsheets, Presentations, Drawings and Forms from any web browser which is similar to the Windows Live Sky Drive office web application. However, unlike Windows Live Sky Drive, Google doc is not able to support features like sharing photos and videos. This maybe the reason to why it is not so popular compared to the Windows Live Sky Drive.

The Show Document web application that allows web meeting and document sharing. This web application allows you to upload, share and view documents, web pages and images stored in your computer. It has a shared whiteboard that allows you to share ideas and information with others using a real time interactive whiteboard. You can also can simultaneously write and edit text or word files with others. However, this is a new web application many users don’t know about as it is new. This application will be useful tool for office workers and students to discuss their work.

The Opera Unite is a new web application that allows you to share content with friends without having to upload anything to the website. This web application is able to support features such as music streaming, photo galleries, share files and also host your own website directly from your browser from anywhere and anytime. Since it is new, users may not be aware of this Opera Unite we application.

This will be our third poll question analysis result, which is “What is the difference between cloud computing and "regular" hosting?’. We have received 5 votes from our guests. To ease the view of the results we have simplified the result into a pie chart as below:

Each percentage of votes is shown below:

A) Is it fully virtualised (0 votes – 0%)

B) Allows self-personalising (1 votes – 20%)

C) Price depends on the utilised resources (3 votes – 60%)

D) No Difference (1 votes – 20%)

From the pie chart, we can clearly see that “Price depends on the utilised resources” as the choice has highest percentage in the votes which cover 60% of the total. As most people know cloud computing system mainly is free of charge and most “regular” hosting is not free of charge as an example, to host standard website the provider has given limited disc space. The second highest vote is “Allows self-personalising” and “No Difference” which both have cover 20% each of total. From my view those who chose this two choice is because they might not be familiar about cloud computing or “regular” hosting. Majority of people already know cloud computing and “regular” hosting sure have difference from the name and even both systems have similar features. Lastly, the option of “Is it fully virtualised”  had not been voted by anyone which covers 0% of the total. Everyone knows that there is no system that let users fully virtualise it because of its security for other user and developer.

This will be our second poll question analysis results, which is “Who do you think will conquer Cloud Computing?”. We have received 11 votes from our guests. To ease the view of the results, we have simplified the results into a pie chart as below:

B) Google (5 Votes – 45%)

From the pie chart, we can clearly see that Google has the highest percentage in the votes which covers 45% of the total. Why is Google the highest voted company???? This is mainly because most of the end users are familiar with Google as a search engine web site. Users can easily search anything from it just by typing in the keyword. The second highest percentage of votes that cover 27% is IBM (International Business Machine). IBM is well known for its contribution in computer system, hardware, software and IT services. Microsoft is the third highest voted company which covers 18% in the pie chart. This is because not many users know about what Microsoft truly, when we say about Microsoft users only think about it application software (e.g. Microsoft office) and operation software. Those who voted Microsoft may believe it might have the chance to conquer cloud computing compared to the first and second highest vote. On the other hand, Amazon has one vote which makes it 9% in the pie chart showing that this person believe Amazon might someday lead in cloud computing as everyone will need to go to Amazon to order not just e-books but also other items from it. It was surprise that Oracle has no votes. Through our view, it might be because not many people know about Oracle.

According to the poll question, which is "How do you think cloud computing can help students?", we have received several votes from our guests. This post is an analysis on the compiled results. Prior to the poll results, we have simplified the results into a pie chart as below :

We have provided multiple choices for the poll. The percentage of total votes for each choice is below:
A) Extra backup (20%)
B) Easy download of software's (20%)
C) Can manage files easily (10%)
D) All of the above (10%)
E) None of the above (40%)


From the pie chart, we can clearly see that the choice with the highest number of votes is "None of the above", whereby 40% of the total voters agreed that none of the above options can help students. This is because some voters may not have a strong understanding about cloud computing or have never heard of the term before. However, there are some who are aware of cloud computing but disagree towards the idea because they believe that cloud computing is more for business, and serious use rather than for students. The choices with the second most votes is "Extra backup" and "Easy download of software". This is probably because majority of the voters who chose these two options might be students or lecturers. Students and lecturers often uses cloud computing as an extra backup or to download free software's, notes, exercises and past-year questions for education purposes. Thus, most of them have the mind-set that cloud computing is all about storing files only. Some colleges or universities even have school portals with cloud computing technologies to allow students and lecturers to upload or download shared files. One example of such a website is Intionline. Other than that, around 10% voters agreed that cloud computing can help students to manage files easily. This is because managing files is only a minor function of cloud computing and less people use cloud computing to manage their files. Thus, not many voters agree to that statement. Lastly, there is also a minority of voters, around 10% of total number of people voted that cloud computing can execute all of the above mentioned functions to help students. Since this blog not only targets teenagers but also the general public, different age of group might have different opinions on the same topic.
