Analysis Post Week 11

This week’s poll question is on “Do you think Cloud Computing will be more popular in the future?” We have received several votes from our guests. Based on the poll results, this is simplified version of the results in a pie chart form.

Following are the option and the percentage of total votes for each choice, below:

A) Yes. Because it brings a lot of benefits. 46% (6 Votes)

B) No. It doesn't help much. 15% (2 Votes)

C) Maybe not so soon. Even though it is useful, it still needs time for public to familiarize with it. 38%
(5 Votes)

From the pie chart above we can clearly see that the choice with the highest number of votes is the first option. Which means users agree that cloud computing has its advantage. This shows the users have understood about cloud computing, its applications and function. Thus, they find it very useful. Furthermore, these groups of user must be profound users of the Internet, by using this cloud computing technology it changes the entire way of using the Internet by making it easier to access data, share data, store data and many more. Users also are able to save cost as they only have to pay per use. Hence, there is no doubt user agree that cloud computing brings benefits.

The second option is “No. It doesn’t help much” which had a vote of 2. This must be because this group of user are not very familiar with this cloud computing technology or not happy with the evolution of a new technology. This is also because evolution of new technology may require user to learn the features and how to use the technology. Moreover, this group of users may just want to stick to their comfort zone which is still use the conversional method of accessing data, sharing data, storing data and many more.

The third option is the second highest vote. This group of user may want some time to use and explore the cloud computing applications before fully implement it. They might also want to consider solving other issues related to cloud computing such as security features and the bandwidth speed before utilizing it.

Finally, we appreciate and would like to thank all of you who participated in this last poll and always stood by us with your support. What do you think of this analysis post?? Please do share your opinion.

Analysis Post Week 10

Link to us: http://snipurl.com/analysis10

Last week's poll was on " Which do you think is a bigger issue on Cloud Computing?" . Visitors have voted and the results are analysed. A total of 25 visitors have participated in the poll. Below is a pie chart of the results of the poll (Blogger is having maintenence and we cannot upload images. We are sorry if there are inconvenience caused. We will upload a better pie chart when blogger is back to normal. For the time being, click on the pie chart to see the pie chart clearly)  :

Here are the options and their respective results:
A) Privacy (44% with 11 votes)
B) Availability (40% with 10 votes)
C) Legal issues (0% with 0 votes)
D) Software/ Application Security (16% with 4 votes)

Privacy option has the most votes over the other options. The option with the second most votes is Availability. Next is followed by Software/ Application Security and lastly Legal issues. It seems that most users are mostly concerned about privacy issues when using Cloud Computing technology.

This shows that most users agreed that privacy issue is one of the most critical issue of Cloud Computing. This is because privacy issues are one of the most important issues to be considered before using any kind of technology. Users are worried that their personal or confidential information might be spread through the Internet. This is unsafe for users because it makes them to be easily targeted by cyber criminals.

Availability is also another popular Cloud Computing issues among users. This is because one of the major reasons for using Cloud Computing is its availability to access the data stored in the 'cloud' anywhere, anytime. If the 'cloud' server isn't always available and often have access problems, then users rather use the traditional way to store files.

Most users do not consider legal issues first because safety and security is the most important and critical issue. Thus, there are zero votes for Legal issues.

Some users use Cloud Computing mainly to gain access to cloud applications or softwares. Some organizations also implemented cloud applications that can be used by staffs and customers. Therefore, it is important that the cloud applications are safe, so that no confidential information is leaked out.

Do you agree with the results and analysis?? If not, what do you think??

Google Cloud Print

Link to us: http://sn.im/cloudprint

Google Chrome Operating System has come up with “Google Cloud Print” concept to ensure that users experience printing from web application is as usual as printing from conventional applications. Furthermore, with creation of web-connected mobile devices, it is not practical to have massive print subsystems and print drivers for various platforms. Hence, Google Corporation mentioned that

“Our goal is to build a printing experience that enables any app (web, desktop, or mobile) on any device to print to any printer anywhere in the world.”

In order to achieve their goal, Google Corporation came up with the idea of a cloud print service, whereby applications do not local operating system and drivers to print. The diagram below shows various applications use Google Cloud Print to submit and manage print jobs. The task of Google Cloud Print is to send the printing job to the right printer, providing the particulars the users have selected with the job status to the application.

Cloud Computing Security

Every global application have its own security feature as it will tell user whether what security feature their have in the term and condition.

Here is some securities that cloud computing provide:

Data Protection - protect one user data by separate for other user that use same cloud computing.

Identity Management - having a unique of its own system to control access information and computing resources for users to secure their data.

Physical and Personnel Security - sufficiently secure by physical machines and users data are not only restricted but the access is documented.

Availability - assure users have their regular and predictable access to their data and application

Application Security - to measures the product environment by using application firewall as service  via the cloud are secure through realizing test and acceptance procedures for outsourced/packaged application code.

Privacy - ensure important data such as credit card number are masked/hidden that only authorized users can access to the data entirely.

Cloud Computing into Mobile Devices

Link to us: http://sn.im/mobilecc

Ever heard of Mobile Cloud Computing?? Over the years, Cloud Computing has been used for desktop applications and softwares as well as file storage. Now, Cloud Computing technology has also moved into the mobile industry, known as Mobile Cloud Computing. In short, Mobile Cloud Computing refers to the technology whereby mobile applications are stored and processed on external servers or also known as 'cloud'.

There are a few benefits of Mobile Cloud Computing. Below is a brief explanation on the advantages and disadvantages of Mobile Cloud Computing for various users:

Advantages:

  • Users

Users using feature phones have advantages of using Mobile Cloud Computing because feature phones have low processing power and less memory compared to smart phones. Since currently the number of users using feature phones is more than the number of users using smart phones, thus Mobile Cloud Computing should benefit most mobile device users. Smart phone users can also gain some benefits from Mobile Cloud Computing as users can share files, view shared files online, and also upload from their smart phones which has higher data processing power. This way, users can save a lot of phone memory space because all they need is a browser to gain access to the applications.

  • Company/Organizations

Companies can share resources and applications easily among staffs and customers while saving hardware and software costs. Mobile Cloud Computing stores applications and run softwares all on the 'cloud' servers so that companies do not need to buy storage hardwares and softwares. Customers can access the applications from any devices, from desktops, to laptops and also mobile devices.

  • Developers

Developers can have a wider market and more potential customers because users can gain access to their applications through any browser including mobile browsers. Other than that, they can also have larger revenues (profits) because developers do not have to create multiple versions of the same application. This is because it is accessible by all devices users. The developers also do not have to pay fees to the mobile platform owner.

Other than the above, Mobile Cloud Computing has also contributed to a new type of business model which is NaaS ( Network as a Service), as stated in Aepona's Official Website.

Setbacks:

Mobile Cloud Computing brings a lot of benefits to different mobile users; however, it has some setbacks which prevents it from being perfect. One of the major setbacks is that cloud applications requires a stable and constant connection in order to run properly. Thus, users whose mobile device have unstable connection will be unable to connect to any cloud applications or softwares. Next, if too many users were to connect to the 'cloud' at the same time. All of the users will experience slow connection and is thus time consuming and inefficient.

Here is a video about when Mobile Cloud Computing is needed and when it is not needed.:

Mobile Cloud Computing has became one of the hot topics among Cloud technology topics. Mobile Cloud Computing can come in all forms such as applications, operating systems and others. Mobile Cloud Operating Systems are also known Web OS 2.0. An example of a mobile cloud computing operating system is EyeOS for mobile which the desktop version was previously mentioned in the iCloud9 Video. Click here for more information on Web OS for Mobile Devices.

"Green IT" through Cloud Computing & Green Computing.

Cloud Computing and Green computing have been mostly talked about issue as we all know. This is due to the necessity to increase efficiency in doing work while ensuring the environment factor is taken into consideration. Nowadays with increase usage of technology in business or any organizations, the consumption of energy power is high and too expensive. At times these organizations and business companies don’t fully utilize their technology devices which eventually lead to waste of money and technology resources. Hence, what can we do to overcome this problem???

Some IT experts have suggested that cloud computing may be able to help save energy consumption and money making it much more affordable for business and organization usage. Business and organization can move to the additional computing power and resources available when they need them, if they have a cloud computing service available. Furthermore, cost can be cut down as they don’t need to be paying for serves which are basically running 24 hours although their not using it. Thus, by merging cloud computing and green computing, the concept of Green IT could be achieved.

What do you think of the idea of achieving “Green IT” through Cloud Computing & Green Computing???

Analysis Post Week 7

Link to us: http://sn.im/analysispoll7

The poll question for this week is "Does economy crisis promotes the use of Cloud Computing?". Above is a pie chart that shows the overall results of the poll. The total number of votes for this week's poll is 30 votes. Now, let's see whether most users agree or disagree with the statement.

Below is a summary of the choices for the poll and the results for each choice :

A) Agree 63% (19 votes)

This choice has received the highest number of votes which is 19 votes out of 30 votes. Most of the voters agreed that economy crisis can promote the use of Cloud Computing. This is because they are aware of the emerging technology that is soon becoming the next cutting-edge technology. Cloud Computing has became so common that always every Internet user has experienced cloud computing intentionally or unintentionally. For example, social networking websites which has been popular recently like Facebook, Myspace and others allows users to upload photos and videos to the "cloud" to share with other users. Moreover, economy crisis easily promotes the use of Cloud Computing because during economy crisis, such as recession, most companies want to save costs and reduce on spendings. Cloud Computing is one of the best solutions to their problems because they can keep their data all in the "cloud" or use cloud services like Google Docs for business applications. This benefits the company because they can save both hardware and software costs which are relative costly. Small organizations would also gladly use cloud computing to save both costs and space. Everything has been made simple and less costly with cloud computing.

B) Disagree 7% (2 votes)

There are a minority of voters which disagree to this statement. This may be because, even though cloud computing is constantly improving as time passes; however, it is very slow to being adopt by users. This is also proven in an article which reports that Spain is ready to accept Cloud Computing, but it is slow to adopt the technology. As mentioned in the article, it says that small and medium-sized business are shaken by the economy crisis, whereas the public are fighting against unemployment issues. For original article, visit this link -> Link . Thus, economy crisis might also be the factor that prevents Cloud Computing from growing fast.

C) Maybe 23% (7 votes)

23% of the total voters vote that maybe economy crisis helps promote Cloud Computing. This is because there is a possibility for either situation to happen. The voters might have thought that economy crisis most likely will help promote the use of Cloud Computing, but they are not very sure about the fact due to the concern of the setbacks that may cause the slow adoption of Cloud Computing. This hesitation caused the voters to be uncertain about the statement.

D) No Idea 7% (2 votes)

This group of voters might be unfamiliar with the Cloud Computing technology and thus have no clue about how economy crisis can relate to Cloud Computing. Perhaps, they understand Cloud Computing only on the surface but not in what are the advantages and disadvantages Cloud Computing can bring.

Different users have different opinions. Therefore, from the above analysis, most voters agreed that economy crisis promotes the use of Cloud Computing. Even though there is no definite answer to this question, the fact that economy crisis has influence over the growth of Cloud Computing does not change, regardless on how big the influence is. After reading this analysis, what are your thoughts? Which option will you choose? Is there a reason for your choice?

How Cloud Computing Can Help Educational Institutions????

Link us to: http://sn.im/cloud-education

As the Internet is evolving tremendously, it makes it easier to communicate and collaborate with other nowadays. This evolution has also contributed to the world of IT by providing low-cost and free technology services for publishing, collaborating, social interaction, editing, content creation and computing. Hence, this is an advantage to all students as they are able to use this internet technology in their learning process.
The Cloud Computing is able to provide services such as Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), which allows user to use computer application without having to purchase, install, or run software’s on their local computers or server. This means the software is being hosted remotely and the data is stored remotely. Moreover, users pay according to how much and how regularly they use the services.
Therefore, by implementing Cloud Computing in educational institutions, they can provide schools, colleges and universities with good education technology at a affordable price because they don’t have to purchase software only for single user, invest on a technology that possible will be outdated in time to come, or spend money on technical support . Furthermore, cloud computing service is flexible as it is scalable this is because Cloud computing allows you to extent as demands come and go or increase. Lastly, students and teachers are able to easily access and store data or any applications easily from anywhere as in cloud computing services are made publicly available.
Below is a short video on Cloud Computing for Education:

Hence do you thing Cloud Computing should be implemented in educational institution???

How Cloud Computing will Change Business?

Link to us:  http://sn.im/cloud-business

In 1990, in a keynote speech at the Comdex computer conference, Microsoft's (MSFT) then-chief executive, Bill Gates said, the world needed three things:
1. a more "personal" personal computer
2. more powerful communications networks
3. easy access to a broad range of information

Now, Bill Gates grand vision has finally become a reality only for businesses. While what pieces Bill Gates had in mind have been available for years, just they were expensive and hard to set up and use. Now more personal PC is here in the smart-phones form and mini-laptops form, and wireless networks make people possible to be connected almost anytime and anywhere their want. At the same time, we knowing and seeing the rise of cloud computing, the vast array of interconnected machines managing the data and software that used to run on PCs. Combine of mobile and cloud technologies is shaping up to be one of most significant advances computing universe in decades.

For IBM(International Business Machines), the change begins with encouraging its 400,000 employees to use tools that it has created based on consumer social-networking sites. After IBM tests new consumer-like cloud computing capabilities internally, it launches them as services for customers.

One of the most promising aspects of cloud computing is it enables the creation of so-called virtual personal assistants. These software confections know people's interests and needs and go off and do useful things for them on the Internet, like suggesting a restaurant for a client meeting or offering reminders of where you have taken the client before. With GPS(Global Positioning System) in smart-phones, computing systems know where we are. And with artificial intelligence software, computers can be taught what we expect of them and how to anticipate our needs.

Podcast Transcript

Selamat Sejahtera!!!

Analysis Post Week 4

Link to us: http://sn.im/analysis4

This week’s poll question is about “Which Cloud Computing service do you prefer?” We have received total votes of 7. Whereby, 4 votes in favour of Windows Live Sky Drive and 3 vote in favour of Google Doc. A simplified version of this poll result is as below in a pie chart diagram.

Each percentage of votes is shown below:

A) Windows Live Sky Drive (4Votes – 57%)

B) Google Doc (3 Votes – 43%)

C) Show Document (0 Votes – 0%)

D) Opera Unite (0 Votes – 0%)

Based on the pie chart above the number of vote for Windows Live Sky Drive was the highest. Perhaps, this is because Windows live Sky Drive is popular among users due to its features compared to the other 3 options given. With Windows Live Sky Drive you are able to store and share photos, videos and documents online. You are also able to choose with who you would like to share and also access the photos and documents from any web browser as long as you have an Internet connection. Furthermore, the Windows Live Sky Drive has free office web application whereby you are able to create and work with others on the Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents online.

On the other hand, the Google doc web application allows you to share, create, and access your work on Documents, Spreadsheets, Presentations, Drawings and Forms from any web browser which is similar to the Windows Live Sky Drive office web application. However, unlike Windows Live Sky Drive, Google doc is not able to support features like sharing photos and videos. This maybe the reason to why it is not so popular compared to the Windows Live Sky Drive.

The Show Document web application that allows web meeting and document sharing. This web application allows you to upload, share and view documents, web pages and images stored in your computer. It has a shared whiteboard that allows you to share ideas and information with others using a real time interactive whiteboard. You can also can simultaneously write and edit text or word files with others. However, this is a new web application many users don’t know about as it is new. This application will be useful tool for office workers and students to discuss their work.

The Opera Unite is a new web application that allows you to share content with friends without having to upload anything to the website. This web application is able to support features such as music streaming, photo galleries, share files and also host your own website directly from your browser from anywhere and anytime. Since it is new, users may not be aware of this Opera Unite we application.

Lastly, on behalf of the iCloud9 team I would like to thank all those who participated on the poll. We hope that you will continue to participate in our upcoming polls. Hence, what other web application do you prefer besides the 4 option that was given?
